“One Day in Paris” event: Unveiling the secrets of the Galeries Lafayette

Known as an “Art nouveau” landmark, the Galeries Lafayette is the birth place of Parisian department stores. Created by two cousins from the Alsace region of France, Théophile Bader and Alphonse Kahn, opened a shop selling novelty items in a small haberdashery in 1893 on the corner of rue La Fayette and rue de la Chaussée d’Antin in Paris. Today this world-renowned luxurious department store kindles the curiosity of all people passionate about the luxury and fashion industry!

During their visit, students of the MSc in Luxury Management & Marketing met with Stéphanie Deveaux, Heritage Project Manager, who unveiled the secrets of the store and talked about its many changes since 1893. They also had the opportunity to visit the headquarters and were introduced to the different brands carried out by the Galeries Lafayette thanks to Myriam Lacroix, Human Resources Manager, who came to meet the students. 

Meeting the high-end representatives of luxury companies such as the Galeries Lafayette is key for students of the programme. They gain essential know-how on the industry while developing their professional network for their future career.
