Live from the Shanghai Campus with Necati

“Hey this is Necati from the MSc in Management - European Triple Degree – Grande Ecole! As part of the finance specialisation, I have been in Shanghai for a few months and here I want to share my experience.

On the academic level, I had four finance courses:  Business Finance, Financial Diagnosis, Financial Markets in Asia and International Finance and one main course of Asian Business Environment. We had a high-quality teaching with professors who have a strong experience in China. We had a great amount of individual and group work that were also enriching as we had students from other Chinese universities in these courses. Finally, we had a Chinese language course, very hard for those who never did it before, but also very useful when interacting with local people.

Concerning the social life, Shanghai is one of the most developed city of the country and there are a lot to do as a student. A lot of bars, nightclubs, I definitely preferred Bar Rouge, M1NT, or UNICO if you love dancing salsa like me. Shanghai is a high-tech city, after opening a bank account, you can use your smartphone to pay for almost everything with Wechat or AliPay. Transports, food, restaurants, you can get a Didi, or just have a ride with your Ofo.

You can try different types of food and visit different cities. I have been in the Nanluoguxiang Hutong in Beijing full of trendy shops and local food, went on a hike on the Avatar Mountains in Zhangjiajie, seen the Terracotta Army in Xi’an. I have been at the Casino in Macau, had a drink at Stanley Market in Hong Kong, and so many other things that I wished I could do if only I had more time.

In that sense, I can say that Shanghai was both academically and socially a unique experience.”
