Meet Yan, current student of the MSc in Management – European Triple Degree – Grande Ecole

At the age of 25, I wanted to challenge myself again and give another direction to my career. That’s why, I was willing to go back to school for a more systematic study and international experience. For personal reasons, I stayed in Lyon and continued my studies at emlyon business school. |
Among all the programs, I was attracted by the MSc in Management – European Triple Degree – Grande Ecole. Firstly, as a traveler, I wanted to have more possibilities in terms of international mobility. The triple degrees gave me a chance to realize this dream. Secondly, the two internships gave us the opportunity to gain more practical experience. Finally, the cohort of the MSc in Management – European Triple Degree – Grande Ecole was highly international. As it turned out, the pace was really intensive and the diversity of the cohort pushed us to quickly adapt to new environments.
The first-year courses were quite fundamental and basic but intensive. Professors came from three different top institutions, and we would be able to enjoy the worldwide resources and experience different teaching methods. Thanks to the solid knowledge of the first year, I found my internship at Group Neovia, a French company specializing in animal nutrition, as an international tax manager assistant. During this internship, I have learnt about the French tax system but also the way to integrate into a French working environment. I have been involved in many projects such as building transfer pricing strategies for the whole group, providing tax modelling scenarios, analyzing tax proof and drafting tax due diligence for merge and acquisition purpose… Through this internship, I found that there were a lot of differences between working in China and in France. The first-year internship in Group Neovia helped me to be more familiar with the French way of working and be ready for the new start of my career. After this first internship, I became more mature and autonomous.
For the second year, I chose the finance specialisation, so I stayed at emlyon business school and mixed with other students from traditional Grandes Ecoles programme. I integrated quite fast and even made several close French friends during these six months. In addition to being focused only on my studies, I started to use social networks to obtain more career information. Finally, I found my second internship in a famous French bank as a credit risk analyst.
Now, I am nearly finished with my courses and will start my last internship soon. I am at a new starting point. I have achieved my goals by joining the MSc in Management – European Triple Degree – Grande Ecole even though I spent numerous sleepless nights on group projects. I have become more open-minded, independent and professional. With the help of this programme, I am ready to go back to the professional world. I am certain that I will be confronted with new challenges, but the early maker spirit will follow me everywhere. I finally would like to quote a Chinese proverb: The way ahead is long; I see no ending, yet high and low I will search with my will unbending."
