Cost of Living in Lyon

Public transportation

The TCL network (Transports en Commun Lyonnais) provides you with cheap and fast transportation, by bus, tramway, tube or funicular train.
A single ticket costs 1.70 €, and a 10-ticket booklet costs 14.70 €.
A monthly pass costs 56.20 €, which allows you to travel on the entire TCL network (Lyon and its suburbs).

In addition, you can enjoy the fresh air with Velo’v. This bicycle rental service, free for the first 30 minutes, which provides over 3000 bicycles, is available in over 350 stations in Lyon and Villeurbanne. This is a very popular means of transport, particularly when you want to travel at late hours.

Housing

The rent of a studio flat averages around 500 €, and you should count around 650 € for a 1-bedroom flat, which when compared to Paris prices is much more advantageous. (A studio in Paris will cost you around 600€, and 950€ for a 1-bedroom flat).

You can subscribe to an unlimited broadband Internet monthly offer. It generally includes unlimited phone calls abroad and cable TV, and it costs around 35 €.

Mobile Phone

For your convenience, you may be interested in getting a French mobile number for the period you will stay at EMLYON. We then suggest you to get prepaid mobile phone cards (available from 5 to 50€). You can find some almost everywhere (newsagents, supermarkets…).

Food

Lyon is well known for the quality of its food. You will have no difficulties to find what you need in the city. 
There are many supermarkets around Lyon as well as markets providing you with fresh food throughout the week. 

EMLYON Business School is equipped with a cafeteria where you will be able to enjoy lunch and socialize with the students.
